While it might seem like a mediocre issue, procrastination can majorly impact your productivity, well-being, and overall life ability to reach your goals.

    Procrastination is the behavioral act of delaying tasks that must be completed on time instead of the ones that are less urgent, more enjoyable, or easier to manage. There are two major types of procrastination. These include the following:

    Active Procrastination: 

    Active procrastination refers to delaying tasks intentionally with the thought of completing them later (closer to the deadline). People who do this are often known as active procrastinators who believe they work better under pressure. 

    Passive Procrastination:

    Passive procrastination occurs when you delay tasks because of a lack of motivation, indecision, or a lower inner drive. This can lead to missed deadlines or partial completion of functions.

    Many factors or reasons can contribute to procrastination. Here, I have listed some of the most popular causes.

    Fear of Failure

    One of the most common reasons behind procrastination is fear of failing. The fear of not being able to complete the task on time can result in avoiding the task altogether.

    If you strive for perfection, it can result in delays, and you might miss the deadline while waiting for favorable conditions or situations.

    A lower inner drive, lack of motivation, clear purpose or vision, and lack of proper goal-setting can also result in procrastination.

    • Health Issues: Chronic procrastination can, most of the time, lead to stress-related health issues, including long-term depression.
    • Damaged Reputation: Neglecting deadlines or delivering poor-quality work can harm your professional reputation.

    Start Rewarding Yourself 

    To overcome procrastination, you can also start rewarding yourself. You can treat yourself with incentives whenever you complete a task or achieve your goal.

    This can be a small treat, a few break days, or some activities you enjoy.

    You can motivate yourself by rewarding yourself and making task completion more enjoyable.

    Procrastination is a challenge that many people face, but this is not a problem that cannot be conquered.

    An important thing you need to understand is that overcoming procrastination is a gradual process! You need to put in consistent efforts and appreciate yourself if you want to be successful.
